Technical Tour

The technical tour will commence from 0430 hours from major hotels, returning at 2130 hours.
This is an optional activity at additional cost for fulltime delegate only.


Rio Tinto Alcan’s Gove operations are located 650 kilometres east of Darwin and 3,200 kilometres north-west of Sydney, near the remote East Arnhem community of Nhulunbuy.
 
From this remote location, Rio Tinto Alcan supplies alumina and bauxite for the international aluminium industry. In the highly competitive world alumina market, Rio Tinto Alcan is regarded as one of the most cost-efficient producers with a commitment to innovation and excellence.
 
The tour will include a visit to Gove’s bauxite mining operations whose rehabilitation program was the recipient of the Excellence in Environmental Management Award at the 2007 Australian Mining Prospect Awards. It will also offer the opportunity to view the expanded alumina refinery operations with a name-plate capacity of 3.8 million tonnes.
 
Full technical tour details, including a confirmed itinerary and timings, will be forwarded to all participants closer to the workshop.

Dress: Long sleeved shirt, long trousers and appropriate enclosed footwear  
Inclusions:   Return transfers to/from major workshop hotels to airport, return flight to/from Darwin to Gove, all ground transfers in Gove, lunch and refreshments

Cancellation policy

  • The workshop reserves the right to cancel or vary the technical tour if minimum numbers are not reached.
  • Technical tour cancellations cannot be refunded if participation is cancelled after 30 May 2008 unless your ticket can be re-sold to another delegate.
